Note Cards by Resident Artists at Island Nursing Home Available in Local Stores

AUGUST 4Note cards featuring artwork by residents of the nonprofit Island Nursing Home and Care Center are hot off the presses and available for a $10 donation at several businesses on Deer Isle and the Blue Hill peninsula.

The notecards feature brilliant, saturated colors, and each box of 10 holds summer or winter holiday images.

The artwork is the product of a popular weekly drawing class conducted by volunteer Hillary Becton. The artists, in alphabetical order, are Jean Adams, Dorothy Bakeman, Marion Bauman, Rose Fiske, Ethel Gott, Mae Gove, Laurice Hardie, Helen Kruse, Theresa Lara, Anna Powers, Jeanie Welch, Hattie Webb and Bernice Quinn.

In Deer Isle, the cards are available at Barter Lumber Company, The Periwinkle and the Pearson Legacy Gallery. In Stonington, they’re available at Seaside Pharmacy.

In Blue Hill, find them at the Tradewinds Marketplace, SaraSara’s, and the Blue Hill Public Library. In Sedgwick, at the Millbrook Company.

Proceeds will benefit the residents’ activities program at INH, a standalone facility that is home to 70 residents. In past years, Becton’s drawing class has produced a popular, colorful calendar. Becton said the notecards are a better option because they won’t go out of date.

If you own a business and would like to offer INH notecards, please contact Judy Mathewson, INH’s director of public affairs and marketing, at 348-6509.  INH wants to thank Downeast Graphics & Printing Inc. in Ellsworth for its generous support.
