What We Do

Nursing Care

At the Island Nursing Home and Care Center (INH), Safe Harbor, we serve 38 residents who require either long-term nursing care or short-term rehabilitation. The care that we provide is customized to each individual’s needs and compassionate. Each resident’s dignity is important to us! Residents are encouraged to participate in care and treatment decisions. We place a high priority on continuous development of the skills of our staff. We have introduced a number of innovative programs, like the Personal Enrichment Care Unit, the Virtual Dementia tour, Music and Memory, Restorative Nursing, a monthly wheelchair clinic and even outpatient PT, OT, SLP therapies which help our staff and residents to relate to each other in the most effective ways possible.

We are committed to ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for our residents and to providing them with the highest quality of innovative health care.

Homeport

The Island Nursing Home and Care Center has a 32-bed residential/assisted living unit. Currently most rooms are doubles, although we have several single rooms as well. At Homeport, residents receive dignified and compassionate assistance, as needed, with those activities associated with daily living. Care is customized to encourage residents’ independence while maintaining a comfortable, safe, and caring environment.

With the help of volunteers, our staff organizes a rich program of activities designed to stimulate residents and to encourage social interaction. Some of these events include:

      – Musical performances
      – Trips to stores and restaurants in the area
      – Art and craft classes
      – Church services
      – Picnics and cook-outs
      – Exercise classes
      – Special events, like a prom, a luau, Christmas parties, and a carnival
      – Birthday celebrations
      – Visits and performances by local school children
      – Visits by therapy pets

B.B.’s Kitchen

We offer restaurant-style dining that allows residents to order what they want from a menu that changes every day. We also provide some standard options—grilled cheese sandwiches, soups and salads—that are always available upon request.

The food is prepared to residents’ specifications at the time they order it. Our dining room is lovingly named “B.B.’s Kitchen” after two cooks, Beatrice Haskell and Barbara Nevells, who were the originators of the kitchen when the facility opened in 1983.
